These prints are made using large format film and modern digital methods to obtain image quality exceeding that of traditional darkroom methods. First a large format transparency is scanned to very high-resolution on a drum scanner. This is the same procedure that is used in producing images for use in fine books and calendars. The huge digital file created from this scan allows control over contrast and color saturation not previously obtainable with optical darkroom techniques. Once optimized this file is then printed by a device called a Chromira - a very high end LED printer which exposes Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper with a combination of red, blue and green light.
This process produces prints with superb color saturation and sharpness even when printed to great size - a typical shortcoming with traditional optical darkroom methods. This is also one of the most archival methods of producing color prints. Independent tests have shown that images on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper will not exhibit any noticeable fading for at least 60 years.
Please keep in mind that due to limitations of the internet, especially the necessity to use low resolution images online and variation in monitors, that the colors you see on your monitor may vary from those in the resulting print. It should also go without saying that these fine-art prints will be significantly sharper than they appear on the web.
