STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE | ||||
|
|
It was a good year
for fall color in the Colorado Rockies with the road over McClure Pass
providing an easily accessible panoramic viewpoint of The Raggeds
Mountains. I spent a nice morning near the Maroon Bells but the afternoon began to threaten with thunderstorms.
When possible, I like to wait out a thunderstorm for the chance of
dramatic light as a storm clears. As afternoon turned to evening I got
lucky with warm, low angle light on the scene and dark clouds above the
mountains. Gambel oaks provided some color in lower, drier areas here but
quaking aspen dominates from about 8000 feet to timberline.
