This is a classic,
Pacific Northwest scene which would not exist without the 80 inches of
annual rain which falls on the lower west side of the Cascade Mountains.
The water here looks good enough to drink and thirty years ago I did so with no
hesitation. Today, however, it is not recommended as giardia, a severe
stomach condition from water-borne parasites, may result. This shot
definitely requires an overcast day with soft, even
light. Hotspots from a sunny day would ruin this composition. Exposure
was based on the mossy, green rocks on the middle right side. Metering off the white water would lead to a gross underexposure of the
entire scene.
