STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE | ||||
|
|
Sitka spruce
comprises this first grove of trees growing directly above the shoreline
at Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park. This location exposes these trees
to the full force of Pacific storms and a constant onslaught of salt spray
in the air. Sitka spruce is resistant to salt spray and is the dominant
conifer along the coast in the Pacific Northwest. This afternoon, a
constantly changing fog created a variety of soft moods here while the sun
broke completely through the clouds about one-half mile inland. Location: Olympic National Park, Washington Technical: Toyo 45 AII field camera with Schneider APO 210/5.6 lens on Fuji Velvia film Exposure: 1 sec at f/45
