  STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE

This was my first morning of a September shoot in the Tetons and this image turned out to be the best from here that year. Arriving the previous afternoon I was disappointed with the lack of good fall color, I knew, however, that the east facing side of the Tetons can be spectacular in the right early morning light even without autumn color. The Snake River Overlook is a very well known viewpoint just off the main highway. In the pre-dawn light I could see storm clouds gathered over the Teton Range and I hoped the rising sun could find an opening in the eastern sky at sunrise. At first, the sky above the range turned pink but light on the mountains remained flat. After about five minutes I got my wish with dramatic light on the Tetons and storm clouds above the range. The  fog rising up from the Snake River below was an unexpected bonus which completed the image.
